For Player Safety, AYSO Invokes Law Four

This past weekend, an incident occurred in which a young lady was not allowed to play in her game because of her hair beads.

As stated in Law Four of FIFA Laws of the Game and in section VI of AYSO Laws and Regulations, players are not allowed to wear any type of jewelry on his or her body, including in the hair. This includes, but is not limited to, bobby pins, hair beads, hair clips, etc.  All of these items pose safety concerns, as a collision with the ball or with another player could potentially hurt the player and/or the other child.

AYSO, both on the Regional and National level, is currently talking to the parents of the young lady affected. Regardless of the rule, we did not intend for this young lady to feel uncomfortable or singled out in any way and for this, we sincerely apologize. We hope that this incident does not affect her love for the game.
