Spring Programs

There are limitations due to availability of certified coaches, certified referees, other required Parent Volunteers, and fields may result in some players not being placed on teams.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Remember that filling out the Spring Select Soccer form in Blue Sombrero does not guarantee placement on a team; it only places your child on the selection list for certified coaches to select from to play on their Spring Select team. The Region will only be able to place those players for which there are coaches willing to coach teams & Referees willing to support that team.

Priority team placement will be given to players whose parents/guardians/grandparents/uncles/aunts, etc. are registered/certified coaches and badged referees (who were ACTIVE in matches from the Fall) volunteers. Those adult volunteers of players who are given priority due to volunteering, agree to volunteer in their stated area for the entire Spring season. Again, not all players who submit their form may be selected for a team.

Should my player participate in Select Play -or- Academy Development Training?

For the 2018 Spring Season, Region 159 is again offering two programs. For 8-U & above players: You can submit to participate in the traditional Spring ‘Select’ program, where coaches select players to form their teams, have practice sessions during the week, and then play a game on Saturday OR

The second option is to participate in the Spring Academy Development Training Program. This Program is for ALL 5-U, & 6-U players, as well as those 8-U & 10-U players that wish further development, before next fall season. The Academy Development Training Program is designed specifically to enhance player development with professionally staffed training sessions and small-sided games on Saturday.

So for Spring, you have two choices for soccer in Region 159!

The primary program is our traditional SPRING SELECT, where the certified coach “selects” players for their team; they may have up to two (2) practice sessions during the week and then one (1) game on Saturday. If a sufficient number of teams are created in each division (8-U, 10-U, etc.), there will be an in-Region gaming circuit that will be considered as the same skill level as the Fall program. In the event there are not enough teams created to play in-Region, then teams that are formed will be offered the opportunity to play in a gaming circuit against other teams in Area E (comprised of surrounding Regions) that may be considered as the skill level of All-Star and above. As always, attempts will be made to place all players who express an interest in playing Spring Select; however, Training Development Academy is open to ALL players 5-U to 10-U.

- SPRING SELECT Teams may be formed from eligible players in age groups from 8-U thru 19-U, boys and girls

- Players are selected by certified coaches in January

- There may be up to two (2) practice sessions during the week and one (1) game on Saturday. Players are expected to commit to this criteria.

- Gaming circuit is within Region 159, if sufficient teams are formed in that division; if not, then teams will play in Area E gaming circuit
  (traveling) against other Regions

- If selected for play, players will be notified of team placement by January 19, 2018.

- Spring play March 10th thru May 19th. NO PLAY March 31 & April 7 *** WEATHER PERMITTING*** There are no extra weeks available for any make up matches. Team standings will be determined based on number of matches (weeks) played for the SPRING Select Season.

- SPRING SELECT Cost: $135 per player

This is the second year the Region will be offering the SPRING ACADEMY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM. The goal of the Spring Academy Development Program is to provide a high-quality, intensive skill-focused, rather than winning focused, training environment for Player Development that is specifically designed to prepare players for the upcoming fall season. It is designed as an intense focus on technical training with a variety of tactical applications that will maximize players’ skills and confidence through the use of experienced and professional soccer coaches to work with volunteer trainers (upcoming fall coaches) to improve the quality of soccer being played by all. Players will be grouped based on ability to enhance learning by tailoring training sessions based on skill level. This assignment is not permanent and can be modified throughout the Academy program, based on the recommendation of the lead coaches. On Saturday’s, there is the maximum amount of participation by every player. Their participation during these sessions is considerably higher (as much as 3 to 5 times) which again leads to the enhancement of their individual soccer skills.

- Eligible players are all age groups from 5-U thru 10-U, boys and girls

- All players that register, in Blue Sombrero, are guaranteed placement in the Spring Academy Development Program

- All players will participate in training and play.

- Spring development academy runs March 10th thru May 19th. NO PLAY March 31 & April 7

- Cost: $135 per player
