The Region 159 GU10 Spring Competitive Team represented Los Alamitos at the recent Macmillan Invitational in Cost Mesa. The team added a few new players to an already impressive roster to compete for the first time as a U11 team at this tournament established for Orange County Plus Teams.
The new players fit in perfectly, and the team rolled through pool play with victories of 8-0 vs. Irvine, 5-3 over Corona Del Mar (CDM) and 5-0 against Lake Forest. This performance allowed the team to play in the championship game against an invigorated CDM Team. The Los AL Girls fell behind 0-1 in the first quarter but came back strong by scoring four unanswered point and shutting down the powerful CDM offense for a final score of Los Al 4 - CDM 1.
Coach Pete Carvajal was especially impressed with the come from behind effort to win the championship. He indicated this team had strung together a very impressive list of performances in tournaments this year. A combination of these players took 1st and 3rd at the Cerritos Turkey Tournament, 3rd in Area All-Star Play, 3rd at The Orange County Cup, 1st at the Cypress Memorial Day Tournament, 2nd at the Solvang Invitational, and now ended their season with a 1st place showing at the McMillan Invitational.
The players and coaches want to thank their families and friends for coming out to support the team during a very long and hot weekend of soccer and for the wonderful party to finish the summer. The team also wants send a special THANK YOU to the region 159 officials who gave up a lot of their valuable time to represent the region as referees.
