OTHER N OTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS

The Galactic Grapes join the ranks of those in the Hall of Fame able to win all of their games and produce a Perfect Season-- by winning both the 2005 fall season GU-12 League Title and the post-season GU-12 Tournament Title.
"D" was the key for the Galactic Grapes in their 10-0 run to the League Title. A well- rounded attack scored 25 goals scored and a stingy, aggressive defense delivered 7 shutouts-- allowing just 4 goals all season. In the Postseason Tournament, the offense carried the day by scoring wins of 4-1 in the Semi-Finals and 5-1 in the Finals to make Los Al 159 history.

2002 Boys U10 'B' Cerritos Tournament team achieved the unexpected. To reach the finals, the 'B' team tied Manhattan Beach 0-0, defeated Cerritos 4-0 and lost to the Palos Verde 'A' 0-4. This record was enough to send them to the quarter finals and play the Los Alamitos 'A' team. This exciting game was a true test for the defense on both sides. After regular play the score was 1-1. The game was decided by kicks from the mark. The 'B' team's goalkeeper blocked three kicks while his team went on to score three kicks, the final score was 2-1. The 'B' team was on their way to the semi-finals. They had to face the Los Alamitos 'C' team and managed to beat them 2-0. The 'B' team was matched with the Palos Verde team again in the finals. This team did not allow any goals scored against them the entire tournament. Palos Verde won the championship game 5-0. The 'B' team took home second place medals.

This GU10 team coached by Frank Destra & Terry Aaker brought home 3rd place medals from the 2002 Hi-5 tournament. The team posted a record of 3-1. Losing the first game 1 - 0, game two they won 1 - 0, game three they won 5 - 0 & medal game they won 2 - 1 in O.T.

The Atomic Bombs (GU12) accomplished what no other team (boys or girls) in Region 159 has done in the last few years. They played an unbelievable 17 games in a row without a loss. This was accomplished by winning the Region 159 league championship, and then winning the Region 159 post season playoffs.
During the regular season, their awesome defense allowed only 7 goals, while their aggressive offense scored 35 goals. The Bombs went on to travel the furthest of any Region 159 team in the 2001 season by reaching the quarter finals of the Area 11-E playoffs.
The 2002 Girls Under 10 Spring Competitive Team took advantage of a bye week from a very successful Spring season to compete in the Fifth Annual Orange County Cup at UC Irvine. The girls finished third in the tournament and second in their very competitive pool with an undefeated record 0-0-3. The girls played a spectacular defense that kept them in every game. Sofia Bustillo provided the offense during pool play with come from behind goals in each of the team's two 1-1 tie games.
The Los Alamitos Girls then went on to the medal round in a game to decide Third place in the tournament. In the medal game Los Alamitos faced off against a tough team from Lake Forest. The Los Alamitos offense came out in high gear with Monica Carvajal scoring three goals in the first half and Sofi Bustillo adding a goal in the fourth quarter to make the final score Los Alamitos 4 - Lake Forest 1. Coaches Pete Carvajal and Taryn Barrette were very proud of the whole team especially the tough defensive play of the the goalkeepers, mid fielders and fullbacks.

The Flame Shooters, a Girls Under 10 Spring Rec team, coached by Frank Destra, took home a respectable 4th place medal at the the 2002 Area11-K Rec Tourney. The team had a spring record of 7-1 and a went 2-2 at tourney, posting two shutouts and losing final 3rd-4th game by a score of 3-2 in over time. |
