Region 159 Short Sided Game Program

AYSO has requested all Regions to utilize "Short Sided Games" as a vehicle to provide younger players the opportunity to better develop their soccer skills.   Region 159 implemented Short Sided Games during the Fall 2000 season.

WHY SHORT SIDED GAMES?

  • To help introduce age appropriate skills and the Laws of the Game to Players and Coaches over time.
  • To introduce kids to a team sport, teaching them basic soccer skills and sportsmanship while having FUN.
  • Kids get more time / touches on the ball in practices and in games, thereby allowing them to be more involved in the game and better develop their soccer skills.
  • It's a way to ease parents into 1st time coaching and refereeing without the pressure.
  • To encourage coaches and parents to focus more on learning and less on winning.
  • It is in keeping with the recommendations of the AYSO National Organization.
